Established in the early 21st century on the threshold of the digital civilization, the Bulgarian Federation of Electronic Sports aims to help young people in Bulgaria to cross into the new millennium marked by cyber culture. With this task ahead our youth organization gives a hand to young people who are seeking opportunities for development, organizes a wide range of activities for the home e-sports scene, works on a number of socially significant projects and last but not least works closely with the Bulgarian authorities, international organizations and private sector partners.
1999 – 2002
“Prehistoric” period of the Bulgarian Federation of Electronic Sports is marked by the flourishing of computer clubs in Bulgaria. At that time the founders of the federation are still planning its creation and work actively for the development of e-sports in the country.
Achievements:
• Hoff Tourney – the first official entirely Bulgarian tournament;
• Participation in the World Cyber Games – the biggest competition for computer and console games in network in the world;
• Wide foreign partner network – Shroet Kommando (Germany), Ligarena (France), Gamepoint (Denmark), E-sports united (Germany), Helkidi games (Greece).
2003
On May 23, 2003 the Bulgarian Federation of Electronic Sports is now a registered non-governmental youth non-profit organization. The main objective ahead of BFES is the institutionalization of e-sport in Bulgaria. However, the Federation deployed a wide social and project activity.
Achievements:
• BFES takes World Cup qualifier in electronic sports (ESWC) in Bulgaria. The final qualifications enjoys tremendous community interest in the game and the support of Mayor Mr. Stefan Sofiyanski and the Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Vassil Ivanov;
• BFES becomes EURODESK point in Sofia;
• Projects for working with disadvantaged children;
• Forming a working group to regulate gaming in Bulgaria;
• Develop their own radio and television program respectively in the air of Radio Net and Channel3
2004
The second year of BFES that passes under the sign of a hard-sport activities.
Achievements:
• BFES is licensed as a national strategic partner of WCG for Bulgaria;
• Final qualifications for ESWC and WCG enjoy broad institutional, public and media support. The events combine competition and cultural show in one.
• The final of the WCG qualifications takes place under the patronage of Minister of Youth and Sports – Mr. Vassil Ivanov and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea – His Excellency Chong Jae Sik.
• Bulgaria takes bronze medal in the discipline StarCraft: BroodWar in the finals of WCG.
